The Perfect Five Days in Japan

Journeying to the Land of the Rising Sun has always been a dream for Oscar. His love for anime, combined with our mutual appreciation for Japanese culture and cuisine, made Japan an obvious choice for our first international vacation together. Reminiscing on our trip to Japan back in October of 2018 is such a fond memory. Japan celebrates its rich heritage while embracing the old and the new. Amidst the towering skyscrapers, innovative architecture, and lightning-fast bullet trains, one can still find tranquil temples, serene gardens, age-old shrines, and honored traditions.

The Ultimate Three Days Tokyo Itinerary

Nestled in the charming district of Akasaka, a perfect blend of residential coziness and commercial vibrancy in the heart of Minato, Tokyo. This upscale neighborhood, often overlooked by travelers, boasts a serene suburban ambiance, complete with meandering alleyways and winding streets awaiting exploration. Our stay was made even more convenient with our accommodation situated just a 4-minute stroll from the Akasaka Subway Station on the Chiyoda Line, providing effortless access to a multitude of Tokyo’s sights.

Asakusa – Sensō-ji

Tucked away in the lively district of Asakusa, Sensō-ji was built in 645 AD, as a tribute to the Bodhisattva Kannon, known as the Goddess of Mercy. As the city’s oldest temple, Sensō-ji has gracefully endured through the centuries, symbolizing spirituality, and unwavering devotion. Within its sacred grounds, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in various rituals, such as drawing omikuji (fortune-telling paper strips) and partaking in a symbolic cleansing at the purification fountain. Our visit to Sensō-ji temple was a profound experience. As it offers visitors a calm escape from the surrounding urban frenzy.

A Traditional Twist: 24 Hours in Adachi-Ku, Umeda

Taking a pause from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo’s lively tempo, we chose to immerse ourselves in a day of tranquility at a Ryokan in Adachi-ku Umeda. Here, we felt as if time slowed down as we savored the quintessence of Japanese culture, from the straw-matted tatami floors to the elegant sliding shoji doors. Proximity to convenience stores, shops, and a variety of dining options ensured we were provided for. A brief stroll to Gotanno station, seamlessly connects you to Tokyo within 20-30 minutes. This was indeed a harmonious blend of both worlds, a traditional ryokan retreat complemented by the modern conveniences just moments away.

A Perfect Farewell in Narita

Before saying goodbye to Japan, we spent a day in Narita. What made our last day awesome was the hotel amenities which included; a masseuse, sauna, and an Osen. It offered the relaxation we didn’t know we needed. And let us not forget our culinary adventure at Dohtonbori. One of the features of dining at Dohtonbori is the DIY cooking experience. Each table is equipped with a teppan (hot griddle), allowing guests to cook their own okonomiyaki. Guests select from options such as seafood, meat, and vegetables. Making our own okonomiyaki was satisfying and incredibly delicious! We also squeezed in some last-minute shopping at Aeon Mall.

As we headed to our next destination South Korea, memories of Japan played like a beautiful movie in our minds. This journey was not just our first international trip as a couple; it was the gateway to our travel addiction!
